No Seam Bag

This is a really simple and fast knit. I've used the yarn Østlandsgarn, it's great for felting.

Needle: US 10/6.0 mm
Yarn: DK/8 ply (11 wpi) 100% wool

Cast on 50 stitches on a pair of circular needles. Knit 22 rounds in garter stitch. Pick up and knit 10 stitches along the short edge, 50 stitches along the CO edge and another 10 stitches along the short edge.

Slip a marker onto the needle. Knit 60 rounds. After 60 rounds, bind off 50 stitches after the marker, knit 10 stitches, bind off 50 stitches, knit 10 stitches. Remove the marker.

Start knitting the handle in garter stitch on the 10 stitches where the yarn now is. Knit as long as you want it, then attach it to the 10 stitches on the other side of the bag using three-needle bind-off.

Weave in the ends, reinforce the handle where it meets the purse if needed. Felt it in the washer on 90 C. You can embroider some flowers after felting if you want to.

  1. Are you able to explain how the bottom of the purse gets closed off? I don't quite understand where in the pattern at part happens. Thank you

  2. @rl You cast on stitches all around the bottom of the purse and start knitting in the round, no closing or seaming needed. :)

  4. Should that be 22 "rows" of garter instead of 22 rounds?
